Brief: Identify some dataset(s) to work with. Apply necessary techniques to communicate complex information quickly and clearly through visual representation.
Introduction
I chose the topic of reducing food waste in Singapore because it is a major problem in the country as it contributes to climate change (Zheng, 2019).
I believe that creating an infographic poster with essential data can serve as a valuable reminder to people about the importance of reducing food waste.
Development Process
Stage 1: Creating a Moodboard
Firstly, I created a mood board because it allowed me to find some inspiration for this topic. Additionally, it also helped me to consider the colour theme I wanted to use. Furthermore, it gave me some ideas on how I wanted to lay out the information.
Stage 2: Data Set
I researched various statistics about tips to reduce food waste in Singapore and selected 6 out of the 8 tips from a blog. However, I realised that the information was not sufficient. Therefore, I looked for more information, which allowed me to add more information for each tip.
Stage 3: Inital Sketch
I created 4 protoypes using Miro and the first 3 prototypes were for exploring different layouts. The black texts described what I was planning to create and were subjected to change. I thought of using prototype 4 to continue my design.
Stage 4: Feedback From Teaching Assistant
It was mentioned that the sketch looked straightforward and suggested that I could explore and include other types of information. Furthermore, I could include numbers 1 to 6 for each tip.
Stage 5: Creating Illustrations
Bin
I created the bin based on the reference images. I reused some of the items created the Nasi Lemak such as the cucumber shown in the next illustration and the bread.

I used the reference images as a based of my Nasi Lemak. I watched a YouTube video to create the rice.
Landfill
I created the semakau landfill as I wanted to show the impact of food waste in the landfill contributes to carbon emissions as well as by the landfill will reach its capacity by 2035.

I’ve also created the clipboard based on the reference image (top image).
I removed some of the details that I thought were unnecessary, such as the person and the items surrounding the clipboard as I wanted to keep my illustration simple.
#2 & #3 Stop-Over Ordering & Snap a Picture of Your Fridge
I created the illustration based on 4 reference images. Additionally, I searched for more open fridge vector images to trace the items inside the fridge. As for the “Snap a Picture of Your Fridge”, I created a picture frame using 2 rectangles.
#4 Stop-Over Ordering
I created the illustration based on 3 reference images. I used the outline of an iPhone 14 as the phone image. As for the icon, I chose a shopping cart and added a red circle with numbers to represent how many items are in the shopping cart.
#6 Donate to Food Bank
I created the “Donate to Food Bank” illustration by compiling information I found online. As shown by the red arrow in the image, I incorporated various objects into the illustration. For the apple, I watched an online tutorial.
#6 Turn Leftovers into New Dishes
I created the illustration based on the reference image below. I chose this reference image because it represented leftovers with a few meatballs that were turned into a taco.
Stage 6: Styles and Colour Theme
Initially, I chose the colour palette of green as shown in my prototype 1 to 4. However, I thought that it did not fit my illustration well and thus I changed it to 5 primary colours as follows
